Notes: Ryan Adams interview:  "That’s also about Jacksonville, which is roughly three hours from Raleigh. In Jacksonville, you’re either a townie or you’re on the base out a Camp Lejune. I never actually saw Camp Lejune. My grandfather was a secretary there for awhile. He went to war and whatnot, but he didn’t bring it home. There was no military lifestyle to my family. We lived on the far side of town, about as far away as you could get from the base. There are a lot of woods and highways between that part of Jacksonville and our part of Jacksonville. I remember it being a very sleepy, lonesome kind of place."

Lyrics:

Red ribbons hang in a Tennessee square
Old people laughing and singing and dancing down there

I'd like to join them, I got no money to spare
So I sit here and watch from the porch
Drinking whiskey in Granddaddy's chair.

Ferris wheel lights look like pictures I'd seen in a book somewhere
Vacant parking lots across the street remind me I'm going nowhere

I'd like to join 'em, I got no money to spare
So I sit here and watch from the porch
Drinking whiskey in Granddaddy's chair

It's difficult to go on knowing you're out there somewhere
Vacant parking lots across the street remind me I'm going nowhere
