Review:
There was an after show gig at a tiny studio organized by Fargo Records for Jesse Malin. He played a set of his songs then was joined by Ryan Adams for Solitaire.
Then they did Brooklyn with Ryan on bass, Nervous Breakdown, Ryan made up a song about the end of the tour and they finished the first set by Helpless (including a reggae jam !?!) with Ryan on drums and Chief on bass.  Ryan came back with Jesse's drummer and Chief on bass for a few improv made up songs about Sara his violin (cello ?) player and about his young french friend Camille.  Deubs.
Review:
Well this was the last night of the tour and it did
show for a  good part of it that Ryan was somewhat
road weary, having said that it was still a really
good show and actually quite a long set.  He barely
spoke between songs and only really cut loose
triggered by a  superb Touch Feel and Lose.  The last
half hour or so he was in a much better mood, chatting
and joking happily.  Jesse Malin started the night off
with another high quality set, even had Ryan lurking
in the background on guitar on the first number.  He's
done so well on this tour, won over a lot of people,
me included , hes promising to be back here (Europe)
in the new year with a band, well worth checking out
if you get the chance.

Ryan kicked off with an unusually croaky Sweet Lil
Gal, and I feared the worst, is this going to be short
and not so sweet?  But he worked through it,  a fine
To Be Young, (which has got faster and faster in the
shows Ive seen) setting my mind at rest! This was the
first show Ive been to in a non English  speaking
country, but it didn't make much of a difference, many
of the crowd were visiting Brits or Americans, and if
the natives didn't understand what was being said, I
have to say they hid it well!  Most of the banter was
from the visitors though, including a very polite but
persistent request (Brit!) for Jacksonville Skyline
and/or World War 24 , Ryan succumbed and played the
Whiskeytown song, did a good job too, but didn't go
for WW24 probably happier to play his current bunch of
new songs  'I see Monsters' 'Thank You Louise' and
'Twice As Bad As Love' all of which are sounding
really good now.  The audience were very enthusiastic,
but very reverential, when some of the crowd started
to sing along to Oh My Sweet Carolina but were very
quickly told to shut up in no uncertain terms. With
Ryan not in ramble mode, between songs the place
became hushed apart from the occasional banter from
US/UK sources, this is probably because the locals
were all too busy smoking like chimneys, this must  be
one of the few countries in the world where Ryan's
Marlboro habit seems understated!  I left that place
feeling like I'd  been on the Players Navy Cut and I
don't even smoke!

For the encores we got the ever unpopular 'Brown
Sugar' a  great 'Wonderwall' and a really loose
'Lovesisk Blues' complete with 'end of tour' confetti
being thrown about the place.  Jesse than came back to
do Solitaire, after which Ryan thanked everyone and
seemed to be very happy it was all done, the show, the
tour, the whole deal, time to go home!  The Paris
venue, Le Bataclan, was a really good one (apart from
the fact I now need nicotine patches) with great sound
and a good view from most anywhere, they only lose
points for a very expensive and understaffed bar that
also managed to  run out of beer!

So that's the end of my 4 show Ryanathon,! Dublin won
this round hands down!

Heres the setlist, and see you all next time!
