Ryan was silent during the first 5 songs. Then he joked about how messy he
was right now, that this show was going to be a career ender and that he
had already dreamed he played this show ...
Then he announced he was going to play the new record, that this was his
plan : "get drunk and play the new record".
But after 3 songs, Witch Hunt, Shadowlands and I See Monsters, he left the
stage mumbling, breaking his glass, punching down the mic and kicking
down the guitar amp.
There was no encore ...

Ryan's set was close to a disaster. He should not have been on
stage. He is a brilliant and talented artist but still human. What we saw
was someone completely exhausted from too much touring going through the
motions. I checked out the 2002 dates on this site. Who do we blame for
such a crazy schedule - management?
The songs are so good that Ryan almost pulled it out of the bag a couple
of times. In the end after lots of self-effacing put downs, broken glasses
and knocked over microphones, he gave up and left. The lights stayed down
for fifteen minutes while we diehards clapped and waited. No Ryan. Lets
hope he had a good nights sleep and comes back sometime to show Brussels
what he is really capable of. David Sweeney
