Fan Review:
What a gig.....fantastic. The venue was Cork City Hall a big old classical building that both Jesse and Ryan made fun of during their performances. Jesse was cool and went down really well with the crowd. Then just as we were waiting for Ryan to come out on stage he walked into the crowd and presented someone with a balloon. When he did come on stage he played for a little under 2 hours. He had a couple of glasses of wine placed around the stage for him however he wasn't touching any of it tonight. He got a pint of Guinness and a hot whiskey brought in from The Lobby bar across the road. As he sipped away at his pint he was really getting into the Irish swing of things and the crowd loved it. He played I think it was 20 songs. Pretty much following roughly the London setlist from the previous gig. About 4 songs in he produced a crumpled piece of paper and taped it the mic stand, a new song he'd written that day in Cork!!, and it sounded really good, he didn't give it a name. He talked about the weird places he had played on the tour so far, a place like a Church with a big crucifix behind him on the stage and another place like a Circus where elephants had been. He made numerous references the fact that he now felt like he was playing in a Court in Cork. When he left the stage at the end of his set there was thunderous clamping and pounding of feet in the sold out venue demanding his return, he eventually obliged and came back on for his encore saying how he thought he had played crap but obviously by the audiences reaction he was feeling better. It was fun watching falling flat on his back during Lovesick Blues and taking song requests from the audience. A shout went up for Goodnight Hollywood Blv. but he declined saying there were too many notes. Then screams for Firecracker and he thought for a while and said he hadn't played it in a while and mightn't be able to remember it but he gave it a blast and it was great. Someone sneezed in the crowd and he said he wished he could get a cold so he could take the medicine (hope he doesn't get his wish). He said then that he suddenly felt like playing for a long while, he seemed to be really enjoying the show. What turned out to be his last song of the night was another audience requested Game of Hearts and then he was gone with the words that we'd been a sweet crowd. There had been calls for Wonderwall and I thought he might be coming back but the house lights came up and we knew it was over. No Wonderwall tonight. What a gifted artist he is.
