Review:

As it was a show for Billy Block's Western Beat, I know taping wasn't allowed, but I also didn't see any stealth folks in the audience. Portions of the entire show will be broadcast on the radio here in Nashville sometime soon (maybe next Monday). Ryan came out after a great set by Tift Merrit. Several industry folks (including Lucinda Williams and Luke Lewis-Pres. of Mercury) were there to check her out. She had a great set. Ryan was the last act. He started off acoustic with about 5 new tunes. Jim Lauderdale came up and sand harmonies on one. He seemed to be in a fairly good mood, someone requested "Time of Need", and he said he hated that song. Then, he went on to say that he really likes the tunes, but it would take too much effort to play it then. As I mentioned earlier, Ryan has a new (to me at least) song that's kind of an response to the end of a fucked up relationship. It's hilarious. Basically, a musical version of the old Sam Kinison (sic) rant of "You bitch, you ruined my life". Except it was "Fuck you, you fucked all my friends, took all my stuff, you fucked up my life, etc" Needless to say, I don't think this song is gonna be on the air. Then three other guys with "really great haircuts" joined for the electric stuff. Absolutely rocking. The final number could only be described as somewhere in the realm of a Neil Young and Crazy Horse jam. Ryan was ripping up the guitar. Very cool. Anyway, we'll just have to see what portions make it to air. Anyone else see anyone taping?
