Submission
by Johny Williams -- "I was quite amused to find Battlestar
Connecticut on the internet. FYI, I played drums and Marc Smith played
guitar. We both play in Patty Hurst
Shifter now (I think we did then too). In that band, I've switched to
bass and Skillet Gilmore is playing drums. Our new record, "Beestinger
Lullabies" comes out next week (the 16th) on Van Alston's Ricebox
Records. Our release party is the 19th at the Brewery. The record
should be available from our new website at www.pattyhurstshifter.com,
Miles of
Music and other select retail outlets. Check it out."

Review:
“One work day into the new week has given me a chance to get back
into the groove, and a day to ponder the weekend's music. All I can
say is it rocked! Van's birthday bash was a big party from the word
GO. With music from Chip Robinson, Ryan Adams, Kenny Roby, Chris
Smith, Johny Williams, Chris Stamey, Skillet Gilmore, Rob Farris,
Caitlin Cary, Tonya Lamm, and birthday boy Van Alston (on rice box),
among others, the evening unfolded like a virtual who's who of North
Carolina alternative country. Where else could one see varying degrees
and fragments of such notables as The Backsliders, Whiskeytown, Six
String Drag, Blue Lena, Tres Chicas, and Patty Hurst Shifter - and all
in one evening? We got some great music: from awesome harmonizing from
the Tres Chicas gals, to some good ol' Alternative Country hoedowns
from a makeshift Whiskeytown, to a set of Neil Young covers, to some
plain ol' rave-up garage rock wanking from Battlestar Connecticut
(featuring Ryan Adams reviving his punk music alter-ego). Oh
yeah...can't forget a little singer-songwriter stuff, too, as Chip,
Kenny and Chris Smith each treated us to short solo sets. The patrons
that packed the Lakeside were eating it up, dancing, drinking and
partying to their heart's delight. (Why can't I ever have birthday
parties like this?)"
