| Last nite, I had the chance to see Ryan play solo in Birmingham. It was so awesome. Ryan has changed so much since his last tours. He has definitely matured and so has his music. He talked with us for about 20 minutes after the show and he was super nice! I can't wait until the new Whiskeytown comes out in March and Ryan's solo album sometime soon. | |||

| Hey there, Ryan here. I
feel compelled to update people on Whiskeytown related stuff. These solo shows have been an absolute blast, and everybody that has come out has been super cool to talk to and to play for. As far as things look right now, Ill be out west starting in Seattle and working my way down thru California, and then across the country till Im back east in January. Were also thinking about going over to Europe with this solo thing but I cant really offer up any dates at the moment, as the soup is still on the stove. Caitlin has been working on something utterly beautiful in the shape of her own songs as well as I have been working on something of my own since we finished the Whiskeytown album. We spent over a year making the new Whiskeytown album and everybody seems really happy with it, no matter how exhausting the process of making a record for a year seemed. It will be out next year on Outpost and the word is early spring. On Nov. 5th, the P.B.S. show, Sessions at West 54th has a performance of us (the town) doing "A Song for You" as well as Emmelou Harris and myself doing "Return of the Grevious Angel". Steve Earle, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Mark Olson and Victoria Williams, The Maverics, Chris Hillman and John Hiatt and Sheryl Crow are also on the show and everybody tore it up pretty good. There should be a SubPop single out sometime this year as well,
available thru their singles club of two songs we recorded way back.
I just wanted to let people in on the real deal with whats going on.
Anybody in ear mark distance should get excited about a record by a nice
lady named Tift Merrit- She recorded a duet record with The Two Dollar
Pistols. we shared a bill in Chapel hill at the Local 506 and she was
quite excellent. Josh Rouse and I played in Atlanta at Smyths ol Bar and
his new record, "all dressed up like Nebraska" is incredible. If
you get a chance to check him out, please do- he is quite mind-blowing. |
