Opening was local band Bocephus King (no Maki). There were
about 30 people in the Starfish when they started at 10:15. Never heard
them before but were AMAZING. Think Doctor John on acid. It was swamp
boogie, country, rock, with an awesome keyboardist. Have to be seen, as it
is hard to pigeonhole them. Their cd is called "a small
good thing" on New West Records out of St. Paul, MN out at the end of
the month
Now Whiskeytown. The came on at midnight with about 200 people in the
place. Opened with a song I didn't know. The only song I knew all night
was Dancing with the women at the bar. Caitlan said they were going to
play some new stuff tonight and they would play some familar stuff at the
end. Well they played some real punky songs, not much slower stuff.
It was real loud with the 3 guitar attack. Kevin and Caitlan hardly
played at all. Then at about 1:30 I went down and sat by the right side of
the stage. Ryan started doing some solo, laying down on the stage.
He the got up and preceded to smash his guitar on a amp and the
stage. Pieces were flying everywhere. He put what was left of it
down and walked off with reverb just pounding the place and that was it.
Everybody just walked of the stage after that. No other songs from SA, no
nothin'. Some people were booing. I looked on the stage and the neck
(head?)of his Gibson was laying just a foot from me, so I grabbed it. It's
got the six string knobs still on it and a number 169543 on the back. Then
the steel guitar player and same techs came out after about
15 minutes to pack it up. So to sum up my first WT live experience,
Bochephus King were better and more entertaining then WT The guys in
Bocephus King were great and gave my friend and his wife a ride home,
Kevin (WT, steel guitar player) was a real nice guy. I was the only one
who talked to him the whole time after the show as the place just cleared
out and Ronda saved face because I bought him a beer and.... I got a piece
of Ryans guitar -- Rob
